You might be in the right place if

●

You feel stuck in overthinking or anxiety

●

You are overwhelmed, burnt out or mentally exhausted

●

You are functioning day to day, but it feels harder than it should

●

Your sleep, appetite, weight or mood has changed significantly

●

There has been a big life change you would like support with

●

You want practical tools you can actually use in daily life

●

Someone suggested you talk to somebody and you are not sure where to start

●

You have managed this before and it has crept back

Most of the people I work with are capable and hard-working, have managed on their own for years, and have hit something that will not shift with the usual approach. Often it is an adjustment problem: the mood disturbance is tied to a stressor, and it eases when the stressor does. That is very workable.

What we actually work on

Sessions are collaborative and practical. We make sense of what is happening, then build strategies that fit the life you have rather than an ideal one.

Depending on what you bring, that might cover:

●Anxiety, worry and overthinking ●Stress and burnout, including workplace overload ●Adjustment after a difficult life event ●Uncomplicated PTSD ●Sleep, energy and nervous system overwhelm ●Workplace boundaries and difficult conversations ●Low mood and irritability ●Confidence in making decisions

The approaches behind it

●Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT)●Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)●Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT)●Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT)●Interpersonal Therapy (IPT)●

Eclectic in practice, which means I draw on whichever of these actually suits what you are working on.

What people are usually working towards

Outcomes differ from person to person and nothing can be promised. That said, the changes people commonly work towards include:

●

Feeling less distressed, generally and about a specific situation

●

New skills for managing anxiety and distress

●

Knowing how and when to draw on your toolkit

●

Knowing how to genuinely relax

●

Making decisions that are good for you, with confidence

●

Managing workplace boundaries

●

Feeling settled about something that used to take up all the room

●

Recognising when you might need more support

Hesitations, answered honestly

I am not crazy or extremely distressed, so is there any point?+

There is. You do not need to be in crisis to get something out of therapy. Plenty of people come simply wanting things to feel more manageable, clearer or more balanced, or because they want someone to think out loud with. That is a perfectly good reason.

I am not sure how therapy will help.+

Completely normal, and very common. The first session can just be a way of finding out whether it feels useful. If what you need falls outside the scope of my practice, I would rather help you work that out than have you keep booking.

You cannot fix my problem for me.+

True, and I will not pretend otherwise. Some situations cannot be fixed. What therapy can do is change how much the situation runs your life, and give you skills to handle it. Therapy works best when you are an active part of it rather than waiting to be fixed.

I do not want to commit to endless years of therapy.+

You do not have to. Most people are in the range of 10 to 16 sessions, and some get what they need in six. The whole point is to build your own skill set so you can manage on your own, and come back later if something new comes up.

I am worried you will think I am crazy.+

I will not. Most of what people are embarrassed to say out loud turns out to be a very human response to a genuinely hard situation.

Someone else told me I need help.+

That is a reasonable way to end up here. The first session can be about working out what you want, rather than what someone else thinks you need.

What happens in the first session?+

We get to know each other. We will talk about what has been going on, what you would like help with, your goals and your history and current circumstances. You do not need to prepare anything. Most people feel nervous beforehand, which is completely normal.

Am I the right fit for your practice?+

This practice suits people who are relatively stable, not in crisis, and interested in practical strategies and reflection. I do not take crisis presentations, people experiencing suicidal thoughts, or clients needing complex multidisciplinary care. If that is where things are at, I will point you to services that can genuinely help.

I am not a crisis service. Bookings and messages are not monitored constantly, so I cannot respond quickly enough to an urgent mental health concern. If you need help now, please contact one of these services.
